After highs in the 90s yesterday and today, it’s going to drop to a comfortable 70-75 degrees all weekend. Let’s get out to some of these great events!

The Marin History Museum unveils its new downtown tour. Walk to 25 historic sites along Fourth Street, from the old Union Depot to the corner where one of the town’s first newspapers ran. 6pm at the library, free. (There’s also a book launch Saturday.)

The season’s last Friday night market takes over Fourth Street with live music and excellent vendors. It’s between Lootens and A St. — not to be confused with the West End Block Party, which will resume next week. 5-9pm, free.

Series still going: Jazz & Blues by the Bay in Sausalito

Closing weekend for Marin Shakespeare’s outdoor staging of the Roman power grab at Forest Meadows Amphitheatre at Dominican University. Bring a blanket — it gets cold once the sun drops. Shows Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, $52 for adults.

Some locals who love Jazz & Blues by the Bay wondered: what would it be like with local DJs instead? Six Marin DJs will play hour-long sets at Dunphy Park. 2:30-8:30pm, free, all ages.

Locals read the Coen brothers’ screenplay aloud on Smiley’s patio stage — I’m curious to hear their Minnesota accents. Noon-2:30pm, free (donations support the Bolinas Film Festival).

Wiley’s Wish will be there with dogs ready for a loving home. And bring your own pet because local photographer Lynda Niemeier-Teasdale will be taking themed photos for a $20 suggested donation. Plus free ice cream! Noon to 3pm.

Five people who were there, including Lloyd Kahn (the founder of the Hearsay News), poets, and a scientist. They’ll talk about the little presses and radio stations that made 1970s Bolinas what it was. 2-4pm at the Borg Barn, free.

Guster and Father John Misty headline this show at the Mountain Theater, home of the Mountain Play. 11:30am-7pm, $150.

Six singers from the Bay Area and Paris perform famous arias outdoors at Hamilton, with Italian snacks and kids’ activities beforehand. Music 4-6pm, free.

Trail races through the coastal oaks at China Camp State Park, in half marathon, 10K, and 5K flavors. Every finisher gets a wooden medal and a beer stein for the finish-line party. Starts 9:15-9:45am, $54-$107.

Warren Hellman’s daughter and granddaughter join festival photographer Jay Blakesberg at Book Passage to talk about the new book on 25 years of free bluegrass in Golden Gate Park. 4pm, free.

Three monthly markets all happen to fall on this weekend. The Maker’s Market at the Mill Valley Lumber Yard is on Saturday 11am-5pm. On Sunday, Bank Street Flea in San Anselmo is 10am-1pm ($5 admission), and the French Market Marin at the Civic Center is 9am-3pm.

This choice won’t surprise anyone. Sushi Ran turns 40 this year, earned a Michelin star 20 years ago, and is currently on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list (excellent food at somewhat reasonable prices). But it’s certainly time we talk about it on Marin Buzz.

Yoshi Tome bought a small Caledonia Street sushi bar in 1986. He arrived from Japan in the late ‘70s on a teaching exchange and was working as an educator before taking a job as assistant manager at the place he’d end up owning. Forty years later he’s still there, and 30 seats have become more than 90, plus the pandemic patio that turned out to be permanent.

What hasn’t changed is the fish, sourced directly out of Tokyo’s Tsukiji market for decades. That’s the real answer to why a beach-bungalow room on a Sausalito side street is consistently rated as the Bay Area’s best sushi.
