If you are reading this, you already know. The rain has stopped. The floodwater is receding. We will survive. Rebuild. Carry on.
For some of us, this was a minor inconvenience. For others, a humorous picture of kayaks on a bike path. For a select few, this was a major life-changing event. Tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage, irreplaceable mementos destroyed, businesses set to the brink of failure. If you know someone who needs their story told, please let us know.

There’s a shortage of casual dining options on the water. Sometimes I just want to order at a counter, find my own seat, and look out at the harbor.
Well, Joinery is just that. There’s plenty of inside seating and just enough out on the deck to hopefully snag a spot on a busy day (see the Yelp photos). It is described on their website as a beer hall and rotisserie. That might be selling themselves short.
I’m sure some people hear beer hall and think “ok, this isn’t for me.” And while they are known for their fried chicken sandwich, they also have excellent big salads.
I mean, they really have a full menu: other sandwiches, appetizers, wine, and even an It’s It for $3.50.
The location is also just far enough to limit the number of ferry tourists stopping in (between Bar Bocce and Dunphy Park). So put the Joinery on your list for a sunny day in Sausalito.

Wednesday, January 7
This is the time of year for self-improvement or even dry January. This book sounds interesting with “the eight awarenesses for freedom from unwanted habits.” 6pm, free.
All Weekend Long
The historic dive bar is back open after a remodel that took most of 2025. This weekend features live music by Danny Montana, Honeydust, Old King (it says full band debut), and my new favorite cover band name, George-ish Jones-Like (surpassing Duran Duran Duran).
Buy, sell and trade guitars. $25 for adults, free for under 11 with adult.
It’s a nice drive out there and the sun may be out. Docents are on the beach so go see some wildlife, learn something, stop for some food, make a nice day of it. They are also doing the sea chantey sing-along again Saturday at 3. 10-5, free.
Friday, January 9
Finally, the joys of bingo without children, am-i-right? But for real, we went to Bingo Loco in SF once, which was one of those wild party bingos. Someone should do that in Marin. 6:30pm, $25.

Saturday, January 10
There’s a new store open with “smile inducing products“ for kids and adults. For the grand opening, they say they will have surprises all day long, but it sounds like food, drinks, and face painting 4-6.
It’s come to my attention that many people haven’t heard of Adobe Creek Brewing. And some of you have been looking to try Fox Pizza. Well here’s your chance, a fun rock-paper-scissors tournament to raise money for Novato South Little League. 4pm, $20 (or just go and don’t enter the tournament?).
Sunday, January 11
This is a unique event. Take a classical orchestra and give them Bay Area inspired rock-and-roll music to play. $28, 2pm.
Get out there to help! Dogs on a leash are ok. All ages (people and dogs). 10-noon, free but registration required.
We are getting oddly specific here. But these events always get a ton of clicks, so I thought you might be interested? 7-9, $50.
Monday, January 12
A railroad historian and author will give a 2 hour presentation with a lot of pictures. 7-9 with intermission, free but donations appreciated.

Storytelling Under the Stars (and redwoods) is back in Fairfax on Wednesday, January 14th. Cozy up under a blanket and hear some stories on the theme “Did I Rescue You or Did You Rescue Me...” $35.
We are also holding our first ever Marin Buzz Dinner Club. It’s a cool concept, you fill out a quiz with preferences and get matched with 5 strangers for dinner. Then all the tables come together at the end for an afterparty. This first one is in San Rafael Thursday, January 15 at 6:15, but it might be sold out by the time you see this. More will follow in other locations.
If you want a trip outside Marin, music edition
It’s the 15th annual Bowie Bash at the Great American Music Hall, a cool little venue in SF.

And if you don’t want a cover band, I’d check out John McCutcheon in Sonoma on Sunday (Wikipedia).
