This is a dive bar with an incredible view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is right next to the Discovery Museum and close to Cavallo Point, although you might not even know it is there. The bar and downstairs event space are run by Travis Air Force Base, and all profits go to their Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Fund. They have a band this Sunday (see below), but I was looking for a reason to include them in an email soon. I think it’s a great rainy day destination. I love all Marin’s outdoor food and drink options, and if the sun’s out, I personally won’t choose to be in a dive. This is the rare place that I think might be even better on a stormy day gazing out at the bay.

Pet of the Week is brought to you by: Tiburon Dog Butler, 415-413-6178 (now hiring a dog walker)

Mama Rasha, pug mix, 7 years old

If you’d like your pet to be considered for Pet of the Week, please fill this out!

Snack by the Playa & Corner Bar Chef, libations, sweets, music, new products, prizes. Sounds like they are going all out and will be a blast. 4-7, free.

I love this idea: a happy hour for ages 21-43 (I looked up the date range). You might wonder, aren’t all happy hours in SF for them and since when do they need help making friends? Well there’s not a lot of focus on this age group in Marin, especially Marin wine bars. 5:30-7:30, free entry.

Friday, November 14

I don’t really know what is involved in this event, but I’m sure it is something other than serving the usual beers. 4-10.

All Weekend Long

Nearly 100 artists will open their studios to show their work and discuss it with anyone who comes by. 11-5 both Saturday and Sunday, free.

I have a friend who did several community theater performances before having kids. But once you get that itch, I don’t know that it ever goes away. It’s got to be in there, just waiting. Well this is opening weekend for the group in the Barn Theater at Marin Art & Garden Center. This one sounds intriguing and kicks off this weekend, running for the next month. $45 for adults, $30 for kids.

Saturday, November 15

The pilates studio is hosting this festive event. 11-2, free to attend, vendor pricing varies.

Do you ever look at a mushroom and wonder, “Can I eat this?” This is your chance to get involved in the local mycology community. Noon, free.

Hear from the coauthors of the book by famed musician photographer Jim Marshall. Deadheads won’t want to miss this. 6-9, $15.

Kids love fishing. Many parents don’t. Learn from a ranger, no fishing license required, plus they’ll have a limited number of poles available. 11-1, free.

Sunday, November 16

This is at the Bar of the Week. They seem to have a lot of members and have fun. 2pm, free.

This is a flat 2 mile walk with a ranger. I still haven’t been out there yet, my friend described it as a less crowded and more kid friendly Muir Woods. 4-5:30, free.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for hands-on latte art classes at Equator Coffees since they always sell out. The next one is February 7 in San Anselmo for $55.

Get your shop on

How would you like a $25,000 item for free? If you can move 24,000 lbs, it’s all yours. This climbing bouldering rock in San Rafael is currently listed on Facebook Marketplace.

There’s also a high-end estate sale in San Rafael: art, watches, leather bags, lamps, and more.

Thanks for reading. If you know of anything interesting going on in Marin, just reply to this email to let us know.
