Daylight Savings Time is this Sunday, which means we get an extra hour of sleep! More time to do fun stuff, here is what is happening.

If you are driving from Mill Valley out to the coast, the first tiny beach you hit is Muir Beach. There you’ll find The Pelican Inn, named for the original name of Sir Francis Drake’s ship. It’s a tiny inn with 7 guest rooms, but the real attraction is the Tudor-style bar and restaurant. Irish bars are great, but you should give English bars a chance too. It was designed to feel like the 16th-century Shakespeare era. The bar itself was supposedly salvaged from a pirate ship, and much of the interior was shipped over from the United Kingdom. As we get into winter, keep this spot in mind for some bangers or beef stew.

Next week they have a Guy Fawkes Day celebration with a beach bonfire and a Beatles tribute band. I’ve been wanting to go to this for years. Should this be the first Marin Buzz meetup? Reply to this email if you want to go!

Pet of the Week is brought to you by: Tiburon Dog Butler, 415-413-6178 (now hiring a dog walker)

Mazie Dean a herding Aussie from a Ranch in Oregon. She loves to hike in Marin Open Space and herd her cat home for bedtime.

If you’d like your pet to be considered for Pet of the Week, please fill this out!

Thursday, October 30

If you are single and smart, this is your chance to impress someone with your knowledge. 7pm, $23.

Take a lit pumpkin. Strap it to your helmet. Ride your bike around in the dark. It’s a pretty solid mountain bike route, about 10 miles with some climb. Hit the bars afterwards. 7pm, free.

Friday, October 31

You bring your own carved pumpkin and they’ll have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. Free, enter by 9.

More Halloween Parties

Plenty of good choices, depends on what you are looking for. There’s house and disco music in Bolinas, a more sophisticated wine bar crowd in Tiburon, a dance party at Mac’s in Fairfax, a dance party at Corner Bar in Mill Valley, the Burren in San Rafael, and many more I don’t care to write down.

Young Kid Trick-or-Treating

If you have kids ages 1 or 2, you might not walk around to homes in the dark to trick-or-treat. Marin Country Mart in Larkspur (and likely other places) does trick-or-treating around the shops starting at 4.

All Weekend Long

It’s a play about a play. Woah. Shows the next month, starting at $45.

This spooky play is running for the next 3 weeks. Tickets starting at $38.

Saturday, November 1

It’s put on by Singles Bay Area, but isn’t just for singles I guess. So if you want another Halloween party, this could be for you. 7-1, $65.

This is a monthly event that we haven’t covered yet on Marin Buzz: the only restored anti-aircraft missile site in the country. Hear stories from the veterans who worked here (or similar locations) during the Cold War. 12:30-3:30, free.

Sunday, November 2

There’s not a ton going on in Marin, but you have the Sausalito and Civic Center farmers markets. But here are a couple of Petaluma events:

This is a great non-profit by a Marin family, and they are hosting their annual Veterans Day BBQ at Stemple Creek Ranch. Noon-4, $20.

They are a The Doors tribute band normally, but I’m not sure if they will play any of The Doors music. It might be all Halloween themed covers. “Don't Fear The Reaper? Check!. Monster Mash? Check! Witchy Woman? Check! And lots lots more.” This is a cool spot near the Lagunitas brewery. 1-6, free.

Want to give back?

Thanksgiving and the end of the year are often when folks give to charity. It might be good to think about it now: 90,000 household in SF and Marin might not receive their food stamps next week. The SF Marin Food Bank is responding and every dollar donated is matched (up to $25k).

Thanks for reading. If you know of anything interesting going on in Marin, just reply to this email to let us know.
