Is the JFK assassination the most famous event in US history? Perhaps. But I do know some fascinating ties to Marin that I’d like to share with you!

This was inspired by Ruth Paine passing away last week in Santa Rosa. Lee Harvey Oswald hid his unusual Carcano rifle in her garage (without her knowledge) and grabbed it from there the night before the assassination.

She lived quite a life! She was a liberal Quaker living in Texas who met the Oswalds through a shared interest in the Russian language. Marina Oswald would eventually move in while Lee searched for work, but Lee also stayed there on November 21, 1963, the night before the assassination. There’s a lot of interesting stuff there, but that’s not the Marin tie...

Clint Hill was the Secret Service agent who leaped onto the back of JFK’s convertible after shots were fired.

He was assigned to Jackie Kennedy and quickly sprang into action to shield her from any additional gunfire. Clint was a resident of Tiburon and Belvedere from 2013 until his passing in February. Local publications Marin Magazine and The Ark featured excellent interviews about his life.

One of the expert investigators in the JFK assassination, Dr. Josiah Thompson, has lived in Bolinas for nearly 50 years. He wrote two books on his analysis, which concludes JFK was hit twice from different directions. “Tink” had a fascinating career as a private investigator, including working on the Patty Hearst kidnapping and OKC bombing. Check out this old New Yorker article about him.

Great hiking location for $1.9M

You know what’s the problem with a Mt. Tam view? That means you are farther away from it.

Here’s a Larkspur home that is a perfect hiking location. (I’d have thought it is Corte Madera since it is just up the hill from where Tamalpais Drive ends at Piccolo Pavilion.) Right next to this home is where the fire roads and trails lead 4 miles to Mt. Tam’s East Peak.

It’s nicely updated with massive sliding door opening to the deck overlooking Marin. 4 bed, 3 baths, 2,091 sq. ft. They had it for sale for $100,000 more earlier this year and just listed it for sale again last week.
