A Marin-Based Team Helping Local Businesses From Overpaying on POS & Credit Card Fees

Hi, we’re Shannon Ronan and Breelyn MacDonald — Marin locals, former business owners of Two Chicks Jerky, and Strategic Partnership Managers with CHIPP. After years of running our own business, we understand firsthand the challenges and costs that come with it.
Now, we are excited to be helping business owners with the systems they use everyday to take payments and run their business. We review setups, uncover hidden fees, help negotiate better rates, and find better-fit solutions - all with local support and a genuine desire to help our community thrive.
As a way of giving back, a portion of our proceeds will be donated to Marin Humane — an amazing non-profit organization we were happy to have worked with that is close to our hearts and doing meaningful work for animals and our local community.

It’s gonna be May! (Said like Justin Timberlake.)

Thursday, April 30
This looks like a fun band I haven’t seen before, playing at the Papermill Creek Saloon. 7-10, free.
All Weekend and the Next
Over 200 artists in Marin will open their studios and allow self-guided tours. There’s too much to list, so explore the map near you to find your favorite type of art.

Friday, May 1
This is an English tradition and Marin’s authentic English pub is hosting the celebration. Maypole dancing, live music, makers market, and of course food and drinks. 4-8, free.
Saturday, May 2
25 Marin historical organizations are gathering at the Boyd House Gardens. Mexican food truck with free food for the first 75 attendees. Kids craft area. 11-2, free.
Go on a naturalist-led hike, make a craft, do the adventure challenge, and even dissect an owl pellet. WildCare is hosting this free event, 10-2.
It’s a day party to celebrate the anniversary of the radio station. DJs, food trucks, a “no talent” show, and more. Noon-4, free.
It’s their second anniversary, so they’re bringing in a DJ from 9:30 until late. But the other big news is they’ll now open early at noon on Saturdays.
A live Salsa band and lessons are included, so no excuse not to go. This is held at the rooftop bar in downtown San Rafael, AC Hotel’s Above Fifth. 5-10, $18 presale, $25 at the door.
Sunday, May 3
They’ll have lion dancers, speakers, and kids’ crafts. There will also be a walking tour of the China Camp Village by one of the last residents. 11-2, free.
There’s a mini sci-fi film festival at The Lark, giving the chance to see some classics on the big screen. I could have chosen E.T. here, but the 1982 Blade Runner is a good pick (and then Final Cut rerelease in 2007). 6:30, $16.
Outside of Marin
I forgot to include this in Monday’s email, so better late than never. Bodega Bay is hosting the Fisherman’s Festival this weekend with top cover bands Tainted Love and Mustache Harbor playing. But the real attraction is the wooden boat building challenge. Teams of four take a pile of wood and race to make a boat and paddle it around the bay, while a crowd of 2500 cheers them on.

New restaurant alert! This is a Bay Area brand that started in Palo Alto and is finally adding their first location in Marin. It’s a fast-casual spot features customizable rice bowls. You can choose various toppings, sauce, and even base (white rice, brown rice, rice noodles, or salad). Everything they serve is gluten free.
It’s described as Vietnamese-inspired street food, but that might not do it culinary justice. The head chef came from Slanted Door in SF and they have many dishes beyond the standard box, including Asian wings, spring rolls, and more.
This will be a welcome addition to the Marin restaurant scene. No opening date is announced yet, but they are working on the former Veggie Grill location next to the UPS Store.

Dixie is a staffy pit mix with a love for playing fetch. She loves to lick your toes when you lay on the couch and doesn’t mind being told not to, repeatedly. She is often mistaken for a puppy, but she’s actually 8 years old and cute as a button.
