June! Summer time is here and there are plenty of excellent events to check out this weekend.

Friday, June 5
This is the first week of the summer series. Is there a better view for music in the park anywhere in Marin? Plus, it now extends 2 weeks longer until late September. This week features a band playing rhythm & blues, funk, soul, New Orleans music. 6:30-8pm, free.

The little park outside Novato City Hall has its own music series. This week is the first of five with a fun cover band. 6-8pm, free.
See 16 comics give their best 5 minutes as part of the 50th SF Comedy Competition. 8-10pm, $23.
All Weekend Long
There’s plenty to check out both Saturday and Sunday. The highlights include a free annual Barn Dance Saturday evening and the parade Sunday at noon. Free.

Saturday, June 6
This Marin Buzz event features two historians of the recording studio sharing stories and playing music by Fleetwood Mac, the Grateful Dead, Santana, and more. Plus, cheesy tacos for sale by La Lupita. Noon-4:30pm, $25.
The Lark Theater hosts this intriguing event. First comes a 30-minute set with a well regarded magician and mentalist on stage. Then they’ll show The Illusionist, a 2010 Oscar-nominated animated French film that isn’t for young kids (10+). 7pm, $23.
A wide variety of artists will open their doors and connect at a historic location. 11-5, free.
One of Marin’s bigger celebrations, the downtown plaza will have vendors, activities, and live music (including gloomy june, a Bay Area queer emo pop band — perfect for those of us who came of age during the emo golden era). 2-6pm, free.
Sunday, June 7
A series of great bands, food, and even a kids zone with some child care. Noon-5pm, $45 for adults (we’ll also have a giveaway and discount for our Insider Texts folks later this week).
The great Marin tradition is back after a year away. This year’s show is The Wizard of Oz. There are still some tickets for the Sunday 1pm performance, but no parking, so hike in.

The outdoor BBQ on the lawn series at Rancho Nicasio is underway. Highly recommend making it out there for at least one show this year, maybe even this one? 4pm, $37.
If you’ve been meaning to check out Marin’s only competitive parkour and full-scale Ninja Warrior gym, here’s your chance. This event is free for kids with coaches supervising. Noon-3.
Wednesday, June 10
We are excited to visit downtown San Rafael since there are so many good restaurants there. Personality + preference quiz, matched with new friends, optional afterparty. 6:15pm, $20 (plus food/drink).

They just launched a new summer special, so it’s a great excuse to go back there. Although, since this is one of the highest rated Italian restaurants in Marin County, you shouldn’t need an excuse.
Wednesday through Friday they have a 3-course menu for a flat $30. It comes with a crostini, choice of pasta, and scoop of gelato. Sounds like a great deal to me, I’ll see you there.
