Another weekend in the paradise called Marin County. Here are some excellent events to check out.

Their self-described "Ameri-Cali Soul" mixes Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Sly Stone, Tower of Power, and a dash of Dead. It’s a new album show at the Paper Mill Creek Saloon. 8:30pm, $15.

Series still going: Jazz & Blues by the Bay in Sausalito

Under the redwoods in Old Mill Park for the 69th year, there are 135 artists selected to participate. The children’s grove is phenomenal with workshops, puppet shows, magic, dance, sing-alongs, and more. 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday, $25 (free for kids).

The pro tennis tournament at the Tiburon Peninsula Club wraps up with finals weekend — both singles and doubles finals Sunday, televised on Tennis Channel. Did you know recent U.S. Open finalist Ben Shelton was a finalist here in 2022? Times and prices vary.

California's biggest volunteer day of the year. More than 50 Marin locations. Most sites are 9-11am, free but must register ahead. There’s also a free BBQ at noon at the Bay Model for all volunteers.

A revival of the outdoor dance that packed Larkspur from 1912 to 1963, now at Escalle Winery with '80s cover band Tainted Love. 7-11pm, $195 (proceeds go toward a new pocket park downtown).

Enjoy live music and unlimited tasting from teams cooking 20 gallons apiece at Dunphy Park. And if you’re feeling spicy, there are still ten spots left in the hot pepper eating contest! Noon-4pm, $30 wristband.

Kids ages 6 to 14 set up shop at Town Center Corte Madera with businesses they dreamed up and built themselves. Come browse and buy from the next generation of CEOs. 11am-2pm, free.

B Street closes for the Good Luck Fund's monthly block party, with food, drinks, and live music from Mitch Polzak. 3:30-6:30pm, $10 requested, no one turned away.

This is an excellent annual event in its 7th year. The Gerstle Park neighborhood closes its streets and 70+ bands play from porches, driveways, and front yards. My only complaint is that the 4pm slot has way too many amazing bands overlapping and I can’t see them all. Also, Miss Swift of the band SWIFTY headlines the kid zone at 2pm. Noon-5pm, free.

The Tourist Club throws its autumn German festival on the hillside above Muir Woods — beer, schnitzel, live music, and dancing, reachable only on foot. The only problem: I still haven’t seen them post the tickets yet, but when they do, expect it to sell out within hours. 1-6pm, tickets online only, none available at the door.

The last BBQ on the Lawn of the year at Rancho Nicasio, with the long-running Neil Diamond tribute band sending the season off (except for a fan appreciation day they added next weekend). Gates 3pm, music 4pm, $44.

It’s opening weekend for this highly anticipated restaurant at the El Paseo building in Mill Valley. The building has an incredible history. Designed in a foxhole in World War II, built using adobe bricks salvaged from Mexico, beams from an old building at Fort Cronkhite in the Marin Headlands, and ironwork from Treasure Island.

Now it will house a restaurant unlike any other in Marin. Nikkei is a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. A Marin family is behind it and there’s a soft opening this Friday. Last week I had the opportunity to tour the spot and learn more about the menu:
