Wednesday, July 15

Admit it: how many of those Netflix shows about cults have you watched? “During the 1960s and 1970s, Marin County became a magnet for communes, spiritual movements, and social experimentation.” Hear the stories from a local historian. 7pm, $20.

Thursday, July 16

This is a big name to perform a free show right outside Gott’s at the fire pit. So grab a spot early. 5-7pm, free.

All Weekend (and the Next Month)

You know that little circular island in the lagoon by the Civic Center? Imagine it with a disco ball, roller skating rink, and a live DJ. It’s open Wednesdays through Sundays for the next month: completely free if you bring your own skates or $5 rentals. Then there are themed nights with a DJ on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Themes this weekend: 70s, 80s, and 90s. Ends at 10pm on weekends.

Friday, July 17

They’ll have trucks, heavy machinery, and emergency vehicles for hands-on family fun. At the Mill Valley Community Center, 4-7pm, free.

Kids like bubbles, but have they seen bubbles like this? He’s only at Live on the Avenue twice this year. I believe 6-8:30pm, free.

Another park is getting in on the summer concert fun. The band is “Crossroads, a high energy band playing classic rock hits from Heart, The Pretenders, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and more, led by a dynamic female vocalist.” 6-8pm, free.

Saturday, July 18

The Spaulding Marine Center hit this milestone and is throwing a summer party. There’s live music, kids activities, a yard sale full of maritime treasure. 4-8pm, free.

The 1989 movie will be shown at Creek Park as part of the Live on the Avenue series. 5pm, free.

Live music by the Wreckless Strangers, top vendors, a kids zone, and of course cars. 11am-3pm, free.

This new monthly series shuts down 2nd St. and this week will feature a Cajun honky tonk band. 3:30-6:30pm, $10 suggested donation.

Uncle Sea Monster, DümSürf, and Ga$ Money are playing this show at Mac’s that is bound to be lively. It’s the first show put together by a Marin heavy-music bass player turned promoter (profiled recently in Pacific Sun). 7:30pm, $20.

Sunday, July 19

Smiley’s is hosting this teaser for the following week’s West Marin Fiddle Camp. Outdoor show from 3-6pm, $20 suggested donation.

Family and leashed dog friendly. 10am-noon, free.

Series still going: Corte Madera Summer Concerts

You’ve never seen so many bicycles in one place! Do you have anxiety locking up your bike and walking away? Or want to travel light with no lock? There are vertical bike racks lining the wall inside. So pop in, grab a half liter of beer in a frozen mug, and grab a sausage. It’s a simple menu, but well regarded. I respect that: choose one thing and do it well.
