What’s going on this weekend?

This is the spot. I’m a sucker for a bakery that bakes good bread, not the ones that specialize in rich desserts. The basic country loaf here is excellent, we just made a special trip recently to have with our dinner at home.

It seems like this is a San Anselmo institution, but it has only been open since 2013… and they originally didn’t even want this location according to KQED. But they’ve crushed it there and are ready to open a new location in downtown San Rafael (the former Crepevine location).

This new location looks like it will be ready soon. Someone said in the comments that there will be a bar, while someone else said that happy hour sign is from the last place:

(And perhaps this new location will have less spandex… does anyone else think if you ride your bike somewhere, it should be the norm to carry some extra clothes if you want to hang out at a restaurant or bar?)

Wednesday, January 21

This book is heralded by Andrew Huberman and other experts. Chapter 4 is about the host of this event (a Marin resident), so who better to hear from? 5, free.

If you liked this week’s Marin History article about the Grateful Dead in Olompali in 1966, you might want to check out this event. 7pm, $20.

Saturday, January 24

Music, vendors, fun. This event is the 4th Saturday of every month. 10-3, free.

This is a unique combination of social Mahjong (no experience required), a mobile sauna session, and other restorative stations for women. 11-3, $150 with promo code MARINMAHJONG. (Let me know if you are interested in more “retreat” type events like this, we are considering creating some in the future.)

This is an OG in the ska-punk and reggae-rock scene. Apparently they still go hard, so could be fun to see them in a small venue (Mac’s). 9pm, $28.

“Party like its 1979” with a NY Deli food pop-up and dancing. All proceeds benefit Sweetwater Music Hall. 6 or 7 or 8, $26.

Sunday, January 25

We don’t want to know the best basketball player in the county. Instead, just a very specific skill: free throws. 8:30-11:30am, $10 for kids, $20 for adults.

Anyone else do a double-take when a bird is referred to as a raptor? 10-2, free but registration is required.

Tuesday, January 27

Unfortunately this restaurant is another that has closed for good. They are throwing a going away celebration to settle up any outstanding bills, including paying the employees who are now out of work. It sounds fun, a legit musician from New Orleans will be there, food and drink included, then head to Peri’s for the afterparty. 7pm, $100.

Ok, I called it a book club, but that sounds like a lot of people going around saying “I liked it.” This sounds legit, with a retired professor leading it. 5 months, 5 books and discussions. $150.

Get your tickets now

Marin Buzz is throwing a Sausalito day party on Saturday 1/31. It is on pace to sell out, so check our Instagram post announcing it and you can grab tickets here. Hope to see you there!

Get your shop on

Last week I mentioned a staging company liquidation sale. Well it is extended to this weekend, so I guess it wasn’t an everything must go situation. I called and got the scoop for you: they are going to see how sales go on Saturday. If enough stuff moves, they’ll do the clear out price drop on Sunday. Or extend it one more weekend.

If you want a trip outside Marin

It’s still SF Sketchfest if you are in the mood for a laugh. How about Battle of the Magicians on Tuesday?
