In partnership with

SIMPLY SAID, modeled after the Moth Radio Hour, showcases storytelling on stage at the Lark Theater, hosted by author/actor and storytelling teacher Corey Rosen. Each show features both experienced storytellers and opportunities for audience members to put their name in the hat to tell their own story based on a monthly theme. Hear tales of bold moves, confronting fears, and dicey decisions. Share your story or simply enjoy as part of the audience. Stories are spoken aloud (without notes) about something you have experienced personally.

Why storytelling? Humans tell stories; it’s our native language!

It’s technically named, which is a contradiction. The building that houses the No Name Bar on Bridgeway in Sausalito had been a watering hole since the late 1800s. Then a group of partners took it over in the late 1950s and set out on an extensive remodel.

However, they argued relentlessly about what to call the reborn establishment. They never did settle on a name and the partnership dissolved. When Neil Davis opened the doors in 1959, he did so with no name at all.

Through the 1960s, the No Name Bar was a draw for the Bay Area's literary and bohemian crowd. Among the famous names who passed through were Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Lenny Bruce, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Charles Mingus. Regulars played chess, read poetry, wore berets, and pounded bongo drums in a room that deliberately had no television — just stacks of international magazines and the kind of conversation you couldn't get anywhere else. Locals called it "everybody's living room."

Here’s an interesting connection to what Marin Buzz is doing with local news and media. According to this Sausalito Historical Society article, the owner “also started his own little newspaper that told stories of who was doing what, along with who was where.” It was printed and circulated right out of the bar. Marin Buzz would love to see a copy if anyone has one lying around all these years later!

Today the No Name Bar is known for having live music 7 nights a week. Drop on by sometime and feel the history within the walls.

Hard to believe the summer’s biggest holiday is right around the corner. There are great parades in the morning, then Marin Buzz is throwing a family-friendly 4th of July BBQ with Tasty’s Joint (the gourmet fast food restaurant coming to Caledonia St. in Sausalito later this summer).

It’s an incredible menu with food included in the ticket price (plus activities, crafts, and more). $40 for adults, $25 for kids.

Here’s a unique Father’s Day option. A Marin local started a business throwing crawfish boils with live music and communal tables. It will be at HenHouse Brewing Company on 6/21, 2-5pm (prices vary according to how much food you want).

They just announced the lineup for this one day festival at the same Mountain Theater used by the Mountain Play (which still has tickets available for this weekend). It’s headlined by Father John Misty and Guster. Also featuring Jerry Harrison’s 50 Years of Talking Heads (I just found out he produced Live’s Throwing Copper album, which is incredible). Tickets are on sale this Friday at 10am for $150.

Because leaving Marin might take more planning. Look for our Marin events in the Wednesday email.

This is a massive 275 vendor fair in a beautiful spot not so far from Marin. It’s both Saturday and Sunday from 10-6 and free.

There’s a whole jazz festival over the next two weeks, but this is one part you should know about. On Saturday there’s a free outdoor show and vendors in the Healdsburg Plaza from 2-8.

$525k Bungalow Project in Fairfax

You don’t see many homes at this price point in desirable locations. Particularly ones that are livable. Ok, that might be a stretch: there’s a hole in one wall and the kitchen tile has been ripped out.

So let’s focus on the location: less than half a mile to M & G Burgers in the flats of Fairfax. Not that that’s where you’ll be walking all the time… it’s just the start of what I’d consider downtown.

Curious what it would go for fixed up? Well there’s a home right around the corner that’s also just over 1k sqft recently listed at $1M. It looks pretty nice!
