Happy Birthday: Allison

Everyone’s shopping for presents right now. Parents with young kids: are you ever amazed by just how much plastic shipped from overseas is in the stack of toys? What if there were a local company that made similar toys right here in the USA out of 100% recycled plastic (mostly milk jugs). Even better if it’s Sausalito-based! Buy online or at these stores.

Purry was rescued from a field in Sonoma County. He was born feral and therefore skittish. The couple that agreed to take him returned him after a day because they didn’t think he was friendly enough. He sat outside of Pet Club in Corte Madera every Saturday to be adopted but always overlooked. I fostered him while they tried to find him a home. He ended up bonding with my other cat so I decided to keep him. He became the sweetest cat and has slept in my arms for 18 years. Only a handful of people have seen him or pet him. He is very special and the best cat I have ever owned, and I’m glad I gave him a chance. He loves my husband and they enjoy sitting on the couch together in the evenings. Most people overlook the shy or scared animals but they end up being the best companions.

Wednesday, December 3
Live music and sing-alongs, hot cocoa, and Santa’s arrival by boat. 5pm, free.
Thursday, December 4
Lone Mountain Barbecue will be serving up some impressive food. I’ve heard amazing things. Plus a special cocktail and beer menu at one of the top bars in Marin. 6pm.
A free showing of these modern classic movies. Frozen is at 5:30pm, Nightmare at 7:30pm.
Friday, December 5
I love the idea of these monthly DJ parties. “Elevated dance music.” I won’t be up that late, but it is great people do. These always sell out, so act fast. 7:30pm-1:30am, $30.
The street will be lined with Luminarias and Santa will join for the tree lighting. Plus many craft vendors all weekend long. 4-8pm.

Saturday, December 6
This sounds up my alley: hiking + history + introspection. The 4.5 mile hike is led by a volunteer docent 9am, free.
You know Tiburon is going to go big. There’s a toddler train, free face painting, and even crafting your own snow globe. 2-5pm.
Novato gets in on the fun with their own tree lighting. I imagine each year, each city moves theirs up so they aren’t the last to do it. Santa arrives on a ladder truck at 5, but it runs 4-7:30pm.
All the good stuff here too: hot cocoa, music, Santa, a train ride. San Anselmo always does a great job with their events. 5-8pm.
Sunday, December 7
Bullet #1: Spiked & Regular Hot Cocoa. Nice. This is at the Lark Creek Shops, has Santa, cookie decorating, and free valet parking. 3-7pm.
The most impressive train might be in Mill Valley. Unless they all just rent the same one and that’s why there’s one of these events every day… 2-6pm.
The book is a “blend of storytelling, the latest research, natural history, and compelling wildlife photographs.” 4pm, free.
