Mentoring for Kids and Teen Coding

When I’m not Marin Buzzing, I love tech (Brian speaking here, not Allison). So much so that I started one of the first 1-on-1 coding tutoring businesses way back in 2011. And I still run it to this day!
One of our biggest competitors just went out of business and many parents don’t know how to keep supporting their child’s interest in coding. So I thought I’d share Breakout Mentors with you.
Who is it for? Ages 8-17, beginner to advanced. Especially if your son or daughter has tried coding somewhere and wants to keep learning at the perfect pace while making fun projects. For driven high school STEM students, we also do USACO competitive programming.

Are you a Parrot Head?
The legendary Jimmy Buffett passed away over two years ago now, but I’m just learning about this tie to Marin.
I guess he didn’t enjoy a trip here in 1973, but he wrote his first song to hit the Billboard chart in Mill Valley. He talks about it in this 30 second clip on Letterman:
That Howard Johnson’s is now a Holiday Inn Express right where 101 meets Highway 1. And the food next door is the new Tam Tavern, so I’m sure if Jimmy were around, he would like it now.
The girlfriend he was missing? Jane Slagsvol, who he would marry in 1977 and they remained married until his passing. When they met, Jimmy had recently moved to Key West and she was a college student visiting for spring break. The rest is history… they even had a great wedding band: The Eagles!
Thanks to: @heynowmarincounty on Instagram. I came across this account that has some interesting Marin music history posts.

We are giving away $40 to The Keg Stand in Novato!
Basically, we tried to raise enough to become a founding member, but came up short. So instead, we are giving it away.
There are only 3 entries so far, so I think your odds are pretty solid. Follow on Instagram and enter by commenting here:

Princess Buttercup is a 10-year-old (and maybe double-jointed!) Torbie rescued from KItty Corner in San Anselmo. She is still looking for her Wesley. IYKYK.

Breaking news: this one hit Zillow less than two hours ago. Get your cash offer in first!
Stinson Beach has the amazing stretch of homes built on a sand spit. Very exclusive. But if you want to be even more exclusive, you want a house at the far end, in the 300s.
It can be yours for $6,490 per square foot. Just 15 times my home! That might not be entirely fair because it is an indoor-outdoor living style and that deck looks amazing.
