Wait, Lucas Valley Road isn't named after George? + Business Owner Survey
Marin history and a short survey for business owners

Did you know that Lucas Valley Road is not named after George Lucas?
Shocking, right? Marin locals know that Skywalker Ranch is located a few miles up Lucas Valley Road in San Rafael. This is the sprawling estate owned by George Lucas, the famous director of Star Wars (starring Luke Skywalker of course).
It is just a coincidence he has the same last name as a previous landowner, John Lucas. John inherited 7,600 acres around 1853 (more info here). George Lucas chose to build his filmmaking compound in this beautiful valley not because of the name – he has joked it was a happy accident – but for the privacy and scenery.
Also: they make wine! On Saturday my father-in-law shared a Skywalker Pinot Noir with us, which is why it was top of mind for the Marin Buzz history section.
